Desert Living, Reimagined
Spaces that hold meaning, reduce friction, and reflect the way you actually live.
Your desert home is unlike any other, shaped by extraordinary light, sweeping landscape, and a lifestyle that moves between indoors and out with ease. It deserves design that understands all of that.
From whole-home redesigns and ground-up custom builds to room-by-room transformations, Studio Garrison offers full-service interior design across Palm Desert and the greater Coachella Valley, always to the same standard: refined, intentional spaces that are as livable as they are beautiful.
We work closely with trusted local trades who know desert construction, appropriate materials, and the specific demands of the climate. We don't just hand off a design plan, we're on-site regularly, keeping your project on track and ensuring every detail is executed the way it was intended.
From your first discovery call through the finishing touches, we're with you every step of the way.
This is where it begins. The discovery call is a short, no-obligation conversation designed to answer your questions, get a feel for your project, and see if we're the right fit for each other. No pressure, just a good conversation.
FAQ
-
Studio Garrison is a California-based interior design studio serving homeowners across the Coachella Valley, including Palm Springs, Palm Desert, La Quinta, Rancho Mirage, Indian Wells, and Indio, as well as clients throughout Southern California. We work on-site for desert-area projects and manage remote and second-home projects for out-of-area owners.

Full-service interior design means we handle your project end to end, from concept to the day you walk into a finished room. That includes space planning, design concept and material selection, furniture and lighting specification, custom millwork and finishes, procurement and ordering, vendor and contractor coordination, and final styling and installation. You make the decisions; we carry the workload, manage the details, and protect the timeline and budget.
-
A decorator works with surfaces and furnishings (paint, furniture, textiles, styling) in a space that already exists. An interior designer does that and the structural side: space planning, layouts, finishes, lighting, and coordinating the build with contractors. If you're only refreshing a room's look, a decorator may be enough. If you're renovating, reconfiguring space, or building, you need a designer. Studio Garrison is a full-service design studio, so we cover both ends.
-
Yes. Not knowing your style is normal, and defining it is part of our job. Most clients can't name their style; they just know how they want a space to feel. We start with a guided discovery process (questions, imagery, and your real day-to-day life) to translate that feeling into a clear, cohesive design direction. You don't need a Pinterest board figured out before you call us.
-
Interior design pricing depends on scope, square footage, and how much we're sourcing. We bill on a flat-fee project basis, which we set out in writing before any work begins, with no surprise invoices. We'll give you a clear estimate after an initial consultation so you can plan with confidence.
-
Often, yes. A good designer saves you from the expensive mistakes that cost far more than the design fee. That means no reordering furniture that doesn't fit, no repainting, no buying three versions of the same thing, and access to trade pricing and vendors most homeowners can't reach. We also keep contractors efficient, which protects your budget and timeline. The value isn't just the look; it's the avoided cost of getting it wrong.
-
We're happy to tell you early in the conversation whether your project is a fit, so neither of us spends time on a mismatch. If a full-service engagement isn't right, we can point you toward a smaller consultation option.
-
We do both. Plenty of our work is a single high-impact space such as a kitchen, primary suite, or great room, alongside full-home and new-construction projects. A single room still gets the full process; the scope is just tighter.

Every Studio Garrison project moves through a clear sequence, and you approve the direction before we move forward at each stage. It begins with a Discovery Call with founder and principal Garrison Hullinger to discuss your project, timeline, and budget. From there, Discovery & Scope is a closer review of the space, in person or remote, that produces a comprehensive outline of scope, deliverables, and fee. Once underway, we move into Space Planning & Concept, then Design Development, where we finalize selections, finishes, fixtures, and furnishings. When your project involves construction, we prepare Construction Documentation and coordinate any outside consultants and GC bidding, followed by Construction Administration, where we keep the build on track, review shop drawings, and manage procurement. Finally, Install & Styling brings it all together, and we walk the punch list with your GC to confirm every detail matches the design.
-
Timelines depend on scope. A furnishings project typically runs about 2 months of design followed by roughly 16 weeks of procurement as we order, track, and receive every piece. A design and remodel project typically runs about 3 months of design, plus another 4 to 5 weeks to prepare permit and construction documentation, before the build begins; construction time itself varies with the scope of work and your GC's schedule. We order long-lead items early and give you a realistic schedule up front so you always know what to expect.
-
Yes. The process is built around your approval at every stage, specifically so nothing gets ordered or built until you're happy with it. Design development includes revisions, and we'd rather adjust on paper than after installation. You're never locked into a direction you don't love.
-
Both. If you already have a contractor you trust, we'll collaborate with them directly. If you don't, we'll bring in vetted contractors and trades from our network of desert-area professionals. Either way, we coordinate the build so the design is executed correctly and you're not stuck translating between your designer and your contractor.
-
Yes. We're present at the key construction and installation milestones to make sure the work matches the design, catch issues before they become costly, and keep trades aligned. You shouldn't have to be the one spotting a misaligned tile or a wrong finish. That's our job.
-
Yes, and it's one of the things we do most. A large share of desert homeowners live elsewhere, so we're set up to run projects with you fully remote, using virtual meetings, digital approvals, and regular photo and video updates, while we handle everything on the ground. You can be hands-off and still in control of every decision.
-
We handle all of it. Full-service means we procure, track, and receive every item, then manage delivery, installation, and final styling. You don't chase vendors, sit on hold about a delayed sofa, or coordinate delivery windows. We manage procurement end-to-end and present you with a finished space.
-
Yes. Many Coachella Valley communities, including gated developments, country clubs, and HOAs in areas like Rancho Mirage, La Quinta, and Indian Wells, have specific rules on exterior changes, approved materials, construction hours, and submittal processes. We're experienced with these requirements and handle the documentation and approvals so your project stays compliant and on schedule.
